The Bishop‘s Palace in Galveston, Texas, is an iconic structure that has a long and fascinating history.

Built between 1887 and 1893, the Gresham mansion is an impressive example of Victorianstyle architecture.

Constructed from limestone and brick, the house was designed to be sturdy and weatherresistant, a feature which would prove to be invaluable during the great hurricane of 1900. In 1923, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galveston purchased the house and it became known as the Bishop‘s Palace.

After a renovation and restoration, the palace was opened to the public in 1963. With its intricate carvings and detailed stonework, the Bishop‘s Palace is truly a sight to behold. The current value of the house is estimated to be over $5.5 million. Today, the Bishop‘s Palace is open to the public and offers selfguided tours daily.
