The Bryan Museum History

J.P. Bryans remarkable collection of Texana is a testament to his passion and dedication for Texas history.

Bryan acquired his first two pieces of the Bryan Collection at around age ten, which was likely inspired by his familys connection to the Texas Revolution.

As Bryan attended the University of Texas, the collection began to focus on Texana and expanded rapidly and eclectically.

Antique firearms, Western and Texas art, rare books, ephemera collections, and documents related to Texas unique history were all added to the collection.

In 1981, Bryan started an energy company and moved the collection to its offices.

In 2013, he purchased the old Galveston Orphans Home, which was restored and opened as The Bryan Museum in 2015. The Bryan Museum presents a chronological history of Texas and the American West with a special emphasis on the Spanish influences in the region.
